Even at this point of the school year, we still have the possibility of setting up a "match" (our term for an adult mentor and a child). In the Aldergrove area, our needs are high and we would love to tell you about how much fun it is to be a kid again!
The In School Mentoring program works differently than the traditional Big Brother's matches. This program takes place at the child's school, during the school year. The "Big Buddy" spends one hour per week doing a fun activity or just talking with a child who could use a friend. The Big Buddies are 18 years of age or older and are people who want to have some fun. This program works well with recently retired seniors or young college students, both of whom have some free time during the day to visit schools. Many of our volunteers point to the convenient scheduling and low time commitment as the benefits of this experience compared to others.
