We believe in the value and values of mentoring

Trinity Western University

"I am writing to endorse the fine work done by Big Brothers Big Sisters. For the past decade I have served as the Practicum Coordinator of the Human Services Certificate Program at our university. Of the thousands of helping agencies in the Lower Mainland, we have developed a working relationship with about 120 non-profit societies and government departments. Of these, a few stand out for their exemplary care and mentoring of our students. Of these is Big Brothers Big Sisters of Langley.

Each one of the several students who have completed their practicum there has expressed their positive regard for the quality of supervision they received. Recently, in reviewing our students' practicum reports from last term I read the following:

"Big Brothers Big Sisters of Langley thus far has been the best agency I have been involved with for its efficiency and effectiveness in preparing and training its volunteers. Because it has had previous experiences with practicum students, the staff the procedures well and are very well-organized. From what I observe, BBBSL goes through a very thorough screening process for all their volunteers (i.e., 2-step interview, background check, references check, driving record, level of education, previous volunteer work, etc.), which is a good showing that the agency cares whom it hires to cater to its clientele and to ensure that it delivers quality service."

I am grateful to Mary Reeves and her team for their commitment to excellence in serving their clientele and their volunteers. For students who want to work with children and youth, I continue to recommend that they complete at least one practicum placement with Big Brothers Big Sisters. I endorse their work without reservation.

Kind regards, Gordon Chutter MA MAL"
